Our approach
Looking at what others overlook
In 2002 the Oakland Athletics won 103 games with far less money to spend than the largest teams in baseball. As a 2003 book about that team and season tells it, they got there by asking a different question about what makes a team win. In the book's telling, most teams paid for the qualities everyone already prized, while Oakland paid attention to some the book says were undervalued, above all getting on base.
We work the same way. Many analyses of a region stop at what is visible: job titles, press releases and announced partnerships. We also look for what is not obvious. That means funding that crosses sector lines, partnerships that worked before and were forgotten, and gaps where a real opportunity is waiting.
RelationLens is built on that idea. It applies it to people, organizations and whole regional ecosystems, always starting from the goal the client has told us.
The questions we ask about every finding
Does it serve the goal?
The goal the client stated, not ours.
Is it new?
Something the client would not have found by looking at the obvious.
How good is the source?
How reliable it is, and whether more than one independent source supports it.
Does it fit this place?
Specific to the client's region and situation.
What happens next?
A clear step the client can take.
